The pools around The Priory
were
drained when Priory Hall was built in 1825, but when the grounds were
cleared and restored, and the Park was created, in the 1930's, the
Lily Pond was created - now minus lilies!
A wooden sculpture was
added near
the Lilly Pool in the 1990's
This shelter was built
in the
1950's, and re-built in the 1990's after suffering vandalism. As the
roof suffered particularly badly, this was omitted when it was
rebuilt, although this does reduce its usefulness in providing shelter
from rain.
The
children's play area is a relatively recent introduction into the
park. It is hoped to extend and eimprove it during 2005.
When
FoPP was formed in 2002, the pavilion was in a state of disrepair, not
accessible ...
...
as were the public toilets.
This
is the result of much lobbying by FoPP - the pavilion is now a useful
facility again (apart from the guttering having been stolen!), though
the
toilets are unfortunately still in the same state.
Like
many such facilities, vandalism, such as this damage to the netting
around the tennis courts, is a problem ...
... and
broken
glass,
litter and graffiti also detract from the appearance and amenities
available.

This,
believe it or not, is the bowling green!
After
hard work by FoPP, funding was obtained to convert one of the tennis
courts into
a multi-purpose sports facility - final improvements to the surface are
due to
be completed in 2005. The intention is that the basketball area will be
converted back to tennis courts, as tennis is extremely popular, and
the new
facility caters for basketball. It
is also hoped that the bowling green may be re-instated.
